In late 2020, we embarked on a mission to introduce a plant-based alternative to the beloved Bak Kwa, a traditional Chinese New Year delicacy. The result was the first edition of Tempeh Bak Kwa, a product that was completely handcrafted with care and packaged in a simple, plain white bakery box sourced from Phoon Huat. Despite the modest beginnings, the reception was extraordinary. Within just two weeks of launching, we sold out, fulfilling over 600 orders. This overwhelming response fueled our passion and determination to take Tempeh Bak Kwa to new heights.

2nd Edition: Meeting Unprecedented Demand

The success of our first launch created a buzz, leading to over 2,000 people joining the waiting list for our second edition. Knowing that we had to meet this high demand, we meticulously planned every detail of the logistics in advance. Our efforts paid off, and the 2nd edition of Tempeh Bak Kwa was another major success, selling out quickly once again. This milestone reinforced our belief in the potential of our product and motivated us to continue refining and expanding our offerings.

With our eyes set on becoming the best tempeh fermentors and makers in the world, we knew that continuous improvement was key. We invested heavily in research and development, consulting with industry professionals and participating in competitions. Our efforts were recognized when we became finalists in Enterprise Singapore's Asia's Great Snack Challenge. This achievement not only validated our work but also connected us with experts who mentored us on improving the formulation of Tempeh Bak Kwa. To further enhance our recipe and ensure it was both delicious and cruelty-free, we hired food science PhDs to guide our R&D process. This investment in quality and innovation has been the backbone of our evolution.

Reinvesting all our profits back into the business, we set out to elevate both the quality and production methods of Tempeh Bak Kwa. As the years went by, our packaging transformed from the initial simplicity to a more professional and polished look, reflecting our growth and commitment to excellence. The 3rd edition was met with great anticipation and, unsurprisingly, sold out in 2023 and 2024. Our journey was a testament to the power of dedication, continuous improvement, and a strong belief in our mission.
